Miss C's Insta 14th birthday

Imagine the scene... It's after 1am on the morning I'm heading to SU convention, swaps are finally finished, bags are packed, but I've still got Miss C's (aka. 'I'm 14 this weekend) birthday card to make - eeek!!!  However, a convention-going gal needs some sleep,  so I went to bed & got a very early morning start on it. Miss C loves her social media, especially Instagram so I wanted to make her something related to the Insta icon. Fortunately, I'd pinned this fab card by the equally fab Kelly Kent so I used this for quick inspiration. I cut, punched, embossed & packed some pieces of card to fit what I wanted & prayed I hadn't forgotten any vital pieces. Thankfully, all was good when I arrived & it came together as I'd hoped.
I took some liberties with the insta icon colours, but I think it was still obvious what it was. The card is pretty large too - the front is about 14cm square (about 5-1/2 inches).  I sponged the card edges, popped some of the 'lens' pieces & added some silver foil numbers & a star - you have to have some bling on a teen card!On the inside I just added a white mat & stamped the large curly birthday sentiment from Age Awareness. Simple!
Of course, I can't finish this post without showing our sweet (& a little sleepy) birthday girl herself (complete with insta filter - as requested) after she woke us up at some very early hour on the big day. <3 As I'd hoped, she loved the card & I think her insta-loving friends did too. Win!
So, my tale worked out in the end...as most things do. I hope this help with ideas for your Insta loving friends & family. Thanks for visiting & remember to pin & comment if the card made you smile. See the supply details below to order them & your own version.

Until next time, inky wishes, Di

PS: the Perfect Print number dies I used are on the retirement list so they're only available until June 2nd, unless they sell out before - still available as I post!

JAI 264 sketch challenge & sneak peek

New challenge time at Just Add Ink already? Why, yes it is! This week the lovely Kim has created a fun & flexible sketch for us...
...and this is what I made.
I 'may' have taken some liberties with the sketch proportions but I think you can definitely see it in my card. This sketch has so many possibilities so definitely check out what all the team have created for you. I hope you'll try it yourself & share your project on the challenge post too.

I've used a few new sneak peek goodies for my card - Can you pick which ones?
Can't pick; here's the list :-)
* Tree Builder punch - I glued together lots of branches to make a large tree - easy! The tiny flowers & birdie are also from the punch. So sweet.
* Bohemian DSP - love the colours & pattern on this piece from the pack...& the others too.
* Triple banner punch - this is my new (not so) secret weapon - perfectly cut banners every time & I LOVE banners. The punch cuts 3 sizes - I used the 1-1/2 & 1 inch sizes here. You can easily make custom sizes up to 2 inches too.

Remember to pin my card as inspiration for when you get your own goodies & do leave a comments to ask any questions or just say hi. I love hearing from you.

Inky wishes, Di

New catalogue update: These & all new goodies will be available from June 2nd from my store. You can see the sneak peek pics I've used in the supply list  below while you wait for the 2nd ...
If you're in Australia & would like a new annual catalogue of your very own (& don't already have a Demonstrator looking after you), drop me an e-mail.

In review - Four Feathers masculine birthday card

Four Feathers is a set that had to grow on me initially, but grow on me it did. I used it for my darling Man's birthday card last year, then the card disappeared until I found it again a couple of weeks ago. Now that has reappeared, I've taken pics & can finally share it with you... just in time for Four Feathers to fly away as it won't be carrying over to our new annual catalogue. Anyway, here's what I made for my darling.
It's a little tricky to see & photograph but the card has a stamped layer overlaid with vellum. You can see the stamped feather layer better in this pic. I got the idea for the drifting feathers from this great card by Kim Ryden. I think it was a fun way to show movement.
I die cut happy through both the stamped & vellum layers with my Little Letters alphabet thinlit dies to show the island indigo mat underneath. I think this & the stamp images from the hilariously named Age Awareness set added a less traditional twist to the card, which I liked & I think Damo did too.
This idea could be easily replicated with paper or many stamped backgrounds to make it for a teen or child too so I hope you've found it useful. Leave a comment if you have any questions or just liked the card. Back soon!
Inky wishes, Di

PS: Four Feathers is only available until June 2nd, so remember to pop it on your order list if you love it.

Sheltering Tree pop up book card & template

I love to make special cards for the Mums, Grandmas & all the other special mum-like ladies in our lives & fancy fold cards are top of the list to make them extra special. So for this year's Mother's Day class we made a new to me fancy fold called a pop-up book card. The card looks pretty normal from the outside (albeit a quite large 14cm x 14cm front)...

Embossed flowers for Mum's Day... or a wedding?

Today, I'm sharing a soft, pretty card we made at the end of April at my Mother's Day - ladies only class. It's also new challenge day at Just Add Ink & this week's challenge is to Just Add a Wedding. Sadly, I ran out of time to make a card for this challenge but now looking at this card, I think it could work for a wedding too. What do you think?
The sentiment & large flowers are heat embossed which gives them a lovely shine & tactile feel. The sentiment is from Butterfly Basics & the flowers are from a beautiful floral & lacy set called Petal Potpourri, in the Occasions Catalogue. I teamed these with some smaller flowers from Petite Petals, Something Borrowed DSP & gorgeously blingy jewel embellishment (our wedding collection suite). Sadly & to my total shock, none of these goodies will be carrying over to the new annual catalogue, so June 2nd will be your last chance to get them. See the supply list below to see & order these goodies.

I liked the card so much that I made this one for my own wee Mum. I used another paper design from The Something Borrowed DSP pack & a retired Mother's Day sentiment. I punched 2 centres from the flowers & curved the edges to give a more rounded look rather than using the bling.
So, are you sad too about these lovelies not going into our new catalogue? If so, make sure you order them soon. I'll be back next time with the second card from the class & it's a fancy fold.
Until then, inky wishes, Di
